The paper describes a technique for modelling and optimization of ring-shaped compound ultrasonic waveguides consisting two sequentially joined segments different materials by means finite elements method. possibility using such amplifying vibrations in amplitude has been justified the paper. advantage developed consists its realization standard engineering software, particularly COMSOL Multiphysics. correctness efficiency is proved comparing numerical data with simulation results transfer matrix method equations vibration Euler – Bernoulli Timoshenko type. It shown that kinds modes are possible variable-sign constant-sign, moreover only constant-sign practical interest amplification amplitude. Recommendations selection optimal geometric parameters given, it ensuring maximum factor necessary to choose central angles waveguide account calculated dependence between angle, characterized presence several local maxima factor. noted high accuracy existing semi-analytical methods calculating designing achieved based on application Timoshenko-type vibration.

Dispersion engineering of photonic crystal waveguides with ring-shaped holes.
The geometry of photonic crystal waveguides with ring-shaped holes is optimized to minimize dispersion in the slow light regime. We found geometries with a nearly constant group index in excess of 20 over a wavelength range of 8 nm. The origin of the low dispersion is related to the widening of the propagating mode close to the lower band gap edge.
